Media (and the public) love a good fight!

This great post from Techdirt (http://techdirt.com/articles/20051220/1455200_F.shtml) on why WiMax won’t kill WiFi makes a good point, but not the one they intended. The purpose of the post is to say that, despite corporate and media rhetoric, WiMax will not kill WiFi but the two will co-exist. Maybe that’s true, may not. But the great point unintentionally made is that a fight is much more fun to report on and write about than than peaceful coexistence. Yes, maybe WiMax by itself is a worthy story. But a story on how WiMax may push out a still relatively new and still wildly popular technology is a much, much better story for everyone (media, analysts, bloggers and the public at large).
Keep that in mind. A good story is nice. A good fight story is far more interesting.
