PR and other related disciplines (e.g., marketing) have indeed been too much about one way conversations. But was there a choice before now? Until the last decade, there really wasn't a mechanism for a true market conversation. Of course, that's changed and now there's a lot of bad old habit that PR and marketing professionals need to shed.

As for honest, that's always been a key qualification. It's just that, thanks to developments like the Blogosphere, it's far easier to be caught now than it ever was before.

Great observations and good questions. I've found some comments from a discussion board that I think may be relevant and have summarized both that conversation and the questions raised in your post on my blog: <strong>"Much Ado About Marketing"</strong>

Thanks for raising these questions and have a great new year.

Best Regards,

Nope, I don't think you are outdated, you just undermined your self !! :)- I think your doing great !!

Getting into a conversation is a good thing.

Anyhow, I asked you "what skill sets should a pr professional have (rather aspire to have) in 10ys from now" - in response I get this trackbak!!

I think honesty is the first thing a pr person needs to have. Too many companies live in ivory towers. These pr peeps sit on their carmels and want to barter with us, rather, I say get of that carmel sqwat on the ground and let's talk !!

PR has been too much a one way conversation. I say, for too many years we have been told the stories by pr/companies- now its our time for for us to speak and them to list.
